Keir Starmer ‘proud’ of England ahead of Euro 2024 final: Prime Minister Keir Starmer told England’s footballers they have “made the country proud”, in a message of support before the Euro 2024 final on Sunday.
England are hoping to win their first silverware since 1966 when they take on Spain in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on Sunday night.
In a letter to manager Gareth Southgate and his players, Mr Starmer said the country was united behind them whatever the game’s outcome.

“You should all be proud of what you’ve achieved so far, and I hope you can take some strength from the millions at home kicking every ball alongside you.
“You don’t need a running commentary from a politician on what you should or shouldn’t do. You’re here not because of luck, but because of your graft and hard work. You’ve earned it.
“As you did three years ago, you’ve made the country proud. Whatever happens, you should know that you have united the country, and we are all behind you.”
William, the Prince of Wales, will attend Sunday’s Euro 2024 final in Berlin to watch England take on Spain, Kensington Palace has confirmed.
Prince William urged England men’s football team to “go out there and show the world what you’re made of” ahead of the Euro 2024 final.
In a social media post on Saturday, he said: “We are so proud of you all England, just one last push to finish the job!
“Go out there and show the world what you’re made of. We believe. W.”
King Charles III also congratulated the England men’s football team on reaching the final of Euro 2024 – but urged them to avoid more last-minute drama.
In a message to Gareth Southgate’s side following the Three Lions’ 2-1 win against the Netherlands, King Charles sent the players the royal family’s “very best wishes” and “warmest congratulations”.
Southgate has said: “I want to win so much on Sunday it hurts,” while Mr Starmer suggested there would be some form of celebration if England win.
The Prime Minister, who will also attend the match, has refused to commit to an extra bank holiday if the team secures victory, saying he did not want to “jinx anything” by pre-empting the result.
